What Are Syllables Counter?

A syllable is the unit of speech sound that forms each word when spoken aloud, and counting its number can help students understand its rhythm and structure as well as aid in learning to spell and pronounce English words correctly.
You can often find the syllables in a word by noticing how your mouth opens and closes when you say the word. Touch your chin when you say the word “elephant.”
How many times has your chin dropped? You’ll probably say the syllables “e-le-fant” and drop your chin three times. The word consists of three syllables.
However, syllable count alone does not always provide an estimate of the number of syllables in a word. Sometimes, the vowels are quiet, as in the word grape. The word grape has two vowels but only one syllable.

How do you can count syllables?

Here are two easy ways to count syllables.
Chin Method
My favourite method is the chin method.
Here’s how you can do it:
Place your hand under your chin and say a word slowly. How many times does your jaw drop onto your hand? This is the number of syllables.
Clap Method
The other one is the clap method. To use it, every time you hear a vowel sound, say the word and clap your hands.
For example, take the word “elephant”: when spoken, it can be segmented as “el-e-phant.” Despite containing seven letters, the word is composed of three distinct vowel sounds (e, a, and a). Therefore, according to the clap method, “elephant” comprises three syllables.
